Jim talks to Huck about how he was homesick and missing his family. He then goes on to tell a story about how one time he had asked his daughter to do something and she just stood there. He had hit her and left then came back and felt terrible about what he had down. This story tells us about how Jim was feeling really homesick and this was the first time we had heard of his family and seen this side of him. We also see this side of him where he can have a temper because he had hit his daughter a few times when she didn’t behave.
