chapter 25-28
William left Mr. Sands because he had promised William freedom and it never came. Mr. Sands kept taking William around with him all over the states. Eventually William got annoyed and when they were in a northern state left with some abolitionist. William did what he needed to do. It seemed that Mr. Sands was not going to be freeing him anytime soon or at all. William finally decided to take his freedom in his own hands. I think that William did the right thing because he probably would have never been freed. Then again he might not have as good of a life as a free man than he did as a slave with Mr. Sands.

Chapter 14-17
Linda gets upset because the gold necklace symbolizes her daughters life in slavery to men and to others. It symbolizes the chains that bind you to slavery for as long as you live. Linda never wanted this for her daughter and it hurt her a lot. She knew that this was only the beginning of a harsh life for her daughter. I think that the comparison is true. Even though it was such a nice gift, it meant the start of a hard life for her daughter. It could mean that her daughter was likely to end up the way Linda did.

Chapter 11-13
"I rarely ventured out by daylight, for I always went with fear, expecting at every turn to encounter Dr. Flint, who was sure to turn me back, or order me to his office to inquire where I got my bonnet, or some other article of dress." (Page 59) This quote is my favorite because I can feel the fear that she is thinking. She is good at making the hard times seem very real and straightforward. It also shows more of how much she has to fear her master because she cannot even go out without thinking that she will run into him. The fear that she has against him is terrible and nobody should have to deal with that. Dr. Flint is so cruel to her and this quote does a great job at summing up how feaful she is of him.

Chapter 5-8
Love like for a slave is hard to have. Linda did know a guy and she loved him a lot. He proposed to her but she couldn’t marry him because her master wanted her for himself. It is hard to have a relationship with another slave because most of the times you cannot get married to them or anything. Her master threatened her when she told him her intentions. He achieved to get her to stay with him but she still wanted to be with her “lover.” It causes pain in them because they have to do what their master tells them to or they get punished.

chapter 1-4
These four chapters give a great detail of how poorly slaves were treated. Jacobs describes as much as she can about where the slaves work, what the masters are like, and how they are treated. She also talks about her family in there too. I think that the way she describes things really makes you think and want to do something for those people. She is very good at doing that in this chapter and it really caught my attention. I think that even though she is talking about many other people, she is still talking about herself in there. Every slave then was not treated right except for a few. Jacobs does mention how she was treated through the way the others were treated.

overview of class
In class we talked about how some of the characters had dreams and how the two people who had big dreams died in the act of trying to fulfill their dream. Myrtle dreamed of being with Nick and living a rich life but it just would never happen for her. She died trying to run out to the car that drove by thinking that it was Nick. The other person who died in the act of trying to achieve his dream was Gatsby. He was accused for doing something that he didn’t actually do. Daisy had been the one who killed Myrtle and Gatsby had to die for her. It seems that Myrtle and Gatsby had to take the fall for both of their lovers. Tom and Daisy would be the real one at fault but they are the ones who never get in trouble for what they did.
