Chapter 9

The funeral didn’t come as much of a surprise because Gatsby actually didn’t have real friends but he was always surrounded by people.  There weren’t many people who actually cared about Gatsby.  It didn’t surprise me either that Daisy didn’t show up because in previous chapters I could tell that she wasn’t fully enjoying herself with Gatsby.  Of course we had to meet Gatsby’s father and find out more about his past.  That was no surprise and I always figured that Nick would be there because he seemed to be the kind of person who did that.  I think that the other guy who came who wore glasses was going along with the theme of the book that there is someone watching over us and I think that that is why the author had him at the funeral.

I thought that you were direct and answered the question very thoroughly. I agreed with most of you what you said, except how you were not surprised that Daisy did not show up. You opened my eyes to the man with the glasses, I did not even think of that!! good blog! : ]

You did a great job reflecting on why people came to the funeral! Some of the reasons you listed had never come to my mind like how owl eyes came to the funeral because he was looking over them. This shows that you put some thought into your reason. I think I was surprised at first, to see hardly anybody Gatsby knew at his funeral. But then when I thought about it I shouldn't have been surprised because I knew that he didn't have close friends. I should have expected there to be no true friends supporting him at his funeral because he had none. His closest would be Nick. So great job with your blog!
