Chapter 7-8

There were many rumors that had been going around about what Gatsby had done and in these chapters you learn that they were actually true.  It was also foreshadowed that there would be someone who would die.  It always seemed that Gatsby didn’t have long to live because of the way that the author talked about him.  It also showed on the cover that there was a person crying and the title sounds like this is a story about someone who was dead and they were telling his story.  There was also some foreshadowing with Myrtle.  You knew that something was going to happen to one of the four people who were having an affair.  It was just obvious that one of them was going to go.

Chapter 9

The funeral didn’t come as much of a surprise because Gatsby actually didn’t have real friends but he was always surrounded by people.  There weren’t many people who actually cared about Gatsby.  It didn’t surprise me either that Daisy didn’t show up because in previous chapters I could tell that she wasn’t fully enjoying herself with Gatsby.  Of course we had to meet Gatsby’s father and find out more about his past.  That was no surprise and I always figured that Nick would be there because he seemed to be the kind of person who did that.  I think that the other guy who came who wore glasses was going along with the theme of the book that there is someone watching over us and I think that that is why the author had him at the funeral.

Great Gatsby Chapter 6

The Great Gatsby: Chapter 6

I think that the reason Nick waited to tell us the truth about Gatsby is that he wanted to tell the readers what he saw of Gatsby.  He wanted us to get to know him or think we know him before he shared the truth.  He wanted us to understand a little bit about Gatsby and the oddity of him. Then once we had seen Gatsby interact with other people an hear all the rumors about who he really was and what he might have done, Nick could tell the truth.  It made sense to not just come right out and say where Gatsby actually started out but to tell us and show us how the present Gatsby was.

Great Gatsby Chapter 5

Gatsby had been dreaming for a long time to meet Daisy and he had been looking out across his lake towards her house where a green light had shown.  He had been building himself up to meet her and used that green light to stay connected to her.  Once he met her it felt like his dreams had fallen a little because he had made it seem greater in his mind than it really was.  Then once he had finally reconnected Daisy it meant that the green light didn’t have its special effect as it had before.  This felt made him feel like it was a let down.
