"Their Eyes were watching God"

This chapter a hurricane was coming and a lot of the people didn’t believe that it was really coming. Many of the people stayed and figured it would just be a small storm and blow over. Teacake and Janie decided to stay because he didn’t think it was worth leaving a way to make a lot of money for the storm. On the night before the storm they were all in the backyard of Teacake’s house rolling dice and a lot of people started to leave because it started getting bad. They were talking about the storm in the way as comparing it to God’s works and everything that was happening was due to God. When the storm got really bad they said the line, “their eyes were watching God.” Janie was saying this because the storm was coming and so they were waiting, waiting for the worst to come. They were waiting to see what God would do and how bad the storm would get. All they could do was watch and wait since they had decided not to leave at first chance.

Vivan,
Good job on your blog. You were very descriptive in telling what happened the chapter. You seemed to make the connection between the storm coming and the people having to wait for God's decision that determined what they would do and that it was one of "God's works". I think also the quote was saying something about the fact that some people didn't have control over everything in life that they thought they did, but that only God had that kind of power.
But great job anyway!

Good blog Vivian!! I thought you had a good summary of what occurred in the chapter, but you also had a good depiction of the quote. I agree with what you said how the fate of Janie, Tea Cake, and Motor Boat all rest in God's hands. Good job!

Great Job Vivian, I think that you did a really good job when you told your interpretation of the quote. The Onlookers really were at the mercy of God. I think it is okay that you did not include the small fact that some people didn't have control over everything in life and that they thought they did, but only God had that king of power... ANNA!!!!! I think you did a wonderful job and that what you said was taken directly from context so there is no need to include irrelevant information. You did a great job addressing the question :)
